That’s a fairly effective system, but it’s nowhere near as effective as being able to sign into the platform directly through the Messages app. When you are using Messages app for accessing other messages like the ones from iMessage, then why use Hangouts separately? You have successfully enabled Google Hangouts in stock Messages application on Mac. You will then be allowed to add Hangouts as service. In authentication box sign in with your desired Google Account by providing all necessary credentials.
Here ensure that you choose Google as your service sign-in option. Once the app opens up, choose Messages header in menu bar and choose Add Account from the drop down list that opens. Just make sure that it properly loads up.
